There are many reasons why a student may have received one grade, while expecting another. Look closely at this list. It explains clearly why students may have received 1s and 2s and not 3s and 4s.
1. The student did not write their name on their assignment. This is the MOST COMMON reason why a student does not receive credit for work they may have completed. If I cannot identify your work, I can't give credit for it. I remind all students to make sure work includes identifying information. Students who may have received a lower score could have received it because they did not write their name on their work.
2. The student turned in work well beyond the deadline. I have to turn in grades often a few weeks before the close of the semester. If work is turned in after the deadline, there is nothing I can do.
3. The student did not follow directions for homework. Students are given specific instructions for completing their homework. If the homework is turned in without showing their work, it is incomplete and only worth half credit. Homework turned in late does not get full credit and it is not checked.
4. The student has lost his or her materials. Students are only given one copy of the homework booklet and classroom booklet. Loss of material results in an automatic "2".
5. Your scores are based on calculated percentages. A score of 100-80 earns a "4", a score of 70-50 earns a "3", a score of 49-20 earns a "2", and a score of 19-0 earns a "1." Your report card score for homework is based on the number of completed homework assignments.
6. Scores may be adjusted for several reasons. Students who have clearly demonstrated effort in class may have an adjusted score. Work that may be completed but nearly illegible may have an adjusted score. Attitude in class may adjust the score.
